The Karnataka government has decided to complete the Mega Textile Park under the PM MITRA project announced by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the state budget.
Minister Priyank Kharge stated that the department of handlooms and textiles has been instructed to immediately revise the detailed project report (DPR), including external infrastructure works for the Kalaburagi Park, and submit it to the Project Approval Committee (PAC) of the Government of India.
The decision was taken during a progress review meeting chaired by state chief secretary Shalini Rajneesh. Industries minister MB Patil and Kalaburagi district minister as well as rural development and panchayat raj minister Priyank Kharge attended the meeting.
According to Priyank Kharge, officials participating in the meeting included principal secretary of the department of industry and commerce S Selvakumar, textile department secretary Rohini Sindhuri, KSIIDC managing director Khushbu Ghoyal Chaudhary, textile department commissioner KB Basavaraj, KIADB CEO Govindarreddy and other officials.
The meeting focused on the immediate commencement of the first phase of development works by KIADB. Officials also discussed that the second phase of the project would begin based on employment generation and investment levels achieved during the first phase.
Under the Central Government’s ‘Development Capital Support’ (DCS) scheme, 30% of the total project cost, subject to a maximum of Rs 500 crore, will be available as support. According to the minister, the grant will be used for the development of internal infrastructure, including roads, water supply, electricity, waste water treatment plant (CETP) and hostel facilities.
To facilitate the release of the first instalment of funds for the textile park project, the state implementing agency will provide a minimum of Rs 25 crore.
Priyank Kharge also stated that authorities have been instructed to begin the process for disbursing funds for physical infrastructure development.
