The Lenzing Group, a leading supplier of regenerated cellulosic fibers for the textile and nonwovens industries, has launched Lenzing Solutions for Protective Wear, a comprehensive three-tier portfolio designed to advance next-generation protective clothing. Anchored by LENZING™ FR fibers for inherent flame resistance, the system also incorporates complementary solutions such as TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers, creating a unified and versatile architecture for protective wear applications.
This marks the first time the protective wear industry has access to an integrated cellulosic fiber system capable of supporting inherent, hybrid, and flame-retardant (FR) finished fabric solutions. Both LENZING™ FR and TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are EU Ecolabel-certified and derived from certified or controlled wood sources, reinforcing Lenzing’s commitment to sustainability and responsible production.
The launch represents the most significant expansion of Lenzing’s protective wear portfolio since it pioneered inherently flame-resistant cellulosic fibers in 1977. It also aligns with the rapid growth of the global personal protective equipment (PPE) market, which is projected to reach approximately USD 130 billion by 2033.
Following its Asia-Pacific debut at CIOSH Shanghai (April 7–9), the portfolio will be presented to European and global audiences at Techtextil Frankfurt (April 21–24).
Kevin Sun, Commercial Manager of FR China team, commented:
“CIOSH brings together over 90% of the Chinese industry partners for FR. We took this opportunity to engage in many productive exchanges with our partners, enhancing confidence and trust under the complex geopolitical situation. At this event, we debuted our refreshed brand image in China for the first time. Customers generally commented that our new design is clear and elegant, creating a strong visual impact, while the new slogan conveys a strong sense of security.”
A Structured Approach to Protective Wear
Recognizing that no single protective solution can address all industrial risks, Lenzing has developed a system-based approach that considers hazard protection, wearer comfort, mobility, and heat stress management across different use cases.
With nearly five decades of expertise, LENZING™ FR fibers continue to serve as a trusted solution for inherently flame-resistant protective clothing. The new portfolio extends this legacy by offering three distinct tiers:
- Inherent Protection: LENZING™ FR fibers, typically blended with aramid, provide permanent flame resistance embedded within the fiber, ensuring durability even after repeated washing. These fibers also offer enhanced wet strength and are suitable for demanding applications meeting international safety standards.
- Hybrid Protection: TENCEL™ Lyocell A100 fibers, combined with modacrylic, deliver improved comfort, resource efficiency, and performance, including enhanced visibility and surface characteristics.
- FR-Finished Protection: TENCEL™ Lyocell Standard fibers, treated with flame-retardant finishes, provide cost-effective solutions for industries such as steel and welding, while also reducing water consumption compared to conventional cotton.
These tiers address varying industry requirements, from high-risk environments such as firefighting, military, and utilities, to industrial, oil and gas, and metalworking applications.
Performance and Sustainability Advantages
Independent testing has demonstrated that garments incorporating LENZING™ FR fibers significantly reduce heat stress. At 35°C, such garments showed a 29% lower increase in core body temperature compared to FR-treated cotton, while also enabling longer sustained physical performance.
Additionally, dope-dyed LENZING™ FR fibers eliminate the need for conventional dyeing processes, resulting in substantial reductions in energy and water consumption, along with a lower carbon footprint.
Alexander Gstettner, Global Commercial Director, FR fibers at Lenzing, stated:
“For too long, the protective wear industry has relied on a one-size-fits-all fiber approach, yet a structural firefighter and a welding technician face fundamentally different risks. With PFAS regulations accelerating and workers operating in increasingly demanding thermal environments, we see a clear need for a more structured approach. Lenzing Solutions for Protective Wear brings together nearly five decades of flame resistance expertise with three distinct cellulosic fiber tiers; each proven in its category, all backed by credentials² ³ ⁶ ⁷ ⁸ and established trust in the industry.”
Global Showcase and Industry Engagement
The complete Lenzing Solutions for Protective Wear portfolio will be showcased at Techtextil Frankfurt 2026 at Hall 12.1 / Stand D33. The platform will provide stakeholders access to product information, technical datasheets, fiber samples, and application support.
By combining advanced fiber technologies, sustainability credentials, and application-specific design, Lenzing is positioning itself at the forefront of innovation in protective textiles, offering solutions that enhance both safety and performance across diverse industrial environments.
