In a groundbreaking move towards sustainability, ANDRITZ has successfully initiated operations of a state-of-the-art textile recycling line at Sfilacciatura Negro’s Biella plant in Italy. This innovative facility, designed to process post-consumer textile waste with automatic removal of hard parts, marks a pivotal moment in Sfilacciatura Negro’s commitment to expanding its footprint in new recycling segments.
With an eye on the surging demand for sustainable fibers in the re-spinning and nonwoven industries, Sfilacciatura Negro Biella opted to enhance its recycling capabilities. Leveraging extensive experience in recycling industrial textile waste and operating two tearing lines, the company is now poised to venture into post-consumer clothing waste recycling.
Tiziano Negro, CEO of Sfilacciatura Negro, underscores the company’s circular approach: “We make new fibers from textile waste that would otherwise end up in landfills.” Expressing confidence in ANDRITZ as a strategic partner, he notes, “Having worked with ANDRITZ for a long time and knowing their expertise in both textile recycling and nonwovens, we are convinced they are the right partner to support our company in our ambitious diversification project.”
The newly commissioned recycling line by ANDRITZ represents the culmination of a decade-long collaboration, extensive trials in the technical center, and insights gathered from customer lines in Spain and Portugal. The result is a meticulously tailored, end-to-end solution – from feeding sorted waste bales to baling recycled fibers. Engineered for high efficiency, energy savings, and automated separation of hard points, the system ensures optimal material yield.
An automated filtration unit manages airflow and dust, streamlining operations for sustainability. Impressively, the entire line, up to the recycled fiber baler, requires only one operator. The baler itself boasts the capability to produce film-wrapped and tied bales, each weighing up to an impressive 350 kg.
As the textile industry takes a giant leap towards a more sustainable future, the ANDRITZ and Sfilacciatura Negro partnership stands as a beacon of innovation, demonstrating that cutting-edge technology and a commitment to circularity can redefine the landscape of textile recycling.
