Uttar Pradesh govt plans private textile parks to curb Chinese imports

The Uttar Pradesh government wants to establish around a dozen private textile parks in the state to encourage textiles and reduce imports of raw materials from China.

The UP Textile and Garmenting Policy 2022 would establish the textile parks. These parks will be located in the districts of Gorakhpur, Mau, Bhadohi, Aligarh, Baghpat, and Shamli.

With an investment of Rs 726 crore, the first private textile park would be established in the Shamli district. By December 2025, the 27-acre Shamli project—Lonex Textile Park—will be up and running. 5,000 direct and indirect employment will result from this. It will include 17 industrial units, including ones for clothing, printing, dyeing, and weaving.

The domestic textile and apparel market, which was estimated to be worth $165 billion in 2022, is predicted to reach $350 billion by 2030, and the country’s textile sector is predicted to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.9 percent from 2023 to 2032.
