Green Theme Technologies (GTT), the pioneer behind EMPEL®—a PFAS-free, sustainable durable water repellent (DWR) textile finish—has announced two significant leadership appointments: Barrett Mooney, Ph.D. as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Vasav Sahni, Ph.D. as Chief Technology Officer (CTO). These strategic hires support GTT’s shift from pure innovation to broad commercial execution as it meets rising demand and regulatory-driven momentum in the performance textile market.
Dr. Barrett Mooney, a former public company CEO, brings over 15 years of experience in growing tech and manufacturing businesses. He has raised more than $150 million in funding and has a strong track record in scaling global operations and optimizing enterprise systems. As COO, Mooney will drive the global commercialization of EMPEL®, aiming to instill “rigor, transparency, and accountability” into GTT’s growth operations.
Dr. Vasav Sahni, with expertise in polymer science and sustainable chemistry, has held senior R&D roles at 3M, Zymergen, and Ginkgo Bioworks. With a Ph.D. in Polymer Science and a B.Tech. in Textile Technology from IIT Delhi, Sahni brings cutting-edge experience in biomimicry, coatings, and bio-based innovation. He will lead GTT’s technical roadmap, refining EMPEL® product development and brand testing.
