The Recyclist Issue 4 – Latest Insights for Recycling Sector

The 4th edition of The Recyclist, the flagship publication of the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR), is now available in print and online, and will also be distributed during the upcoming BIR World Recycling Convention in Bangkok on 27–28 October 2025.

A major feature of this issue is “The Big Interview” with Professor Philippe Chalmin, a French historian and economist, and Dr. Elizabeth Stephens, a geopolitical strategist. They share compelling perspectives on how trade policies are shaping the recycling industry. While their viewpoints differ, both highlight the adaptability and resilience of recycling businesses. As Dr. Stephens observes, “Markets are phenomenal at adapting and become remarkably resilient in the face of geopolitical risks. Markets will work around whatever governments do.”

Other key highlights include updates on BIR’s advocacy work regarding policy and legislation, an analysis of how changes to the Basel Convention are influencing electric motor recycling, and an in-depth look at the strategic implications of the EU and the US strengthening their secondary copper supply chains.

The magazine also features an inspiring interview with Anastasia Kopysh, a young trader who shares her passion for the recycling sector and the energy she has found working within it. Another highlight is a tribute to Dominique Maguin, BIR’s president from 2007 to 2011, who continues to contribute significantly to the recycling industry.

BIR President Susie Burrage said, “We are working hard to ensure that each issue of The Recyclist brings readers timely and useful information about the sector, written by industry experts. With so much news unfolding globally, we hope we can help recyclers make sense of these developments and how their businesses could be affected.”

The publication is available both as an e-edition and as a sustainably printed glossy magazine, produced on recycled paper using eco-friendly ink. Copies are currently being mailed to BIR members across 70 countries worldwide.
