The Government of India has given its approval to the Textiles Focused Research, Assessment, Monitoring, Planning and Start-up (Tex-RAMPS) Scheme, aimed at enhancing research, fostering innovation, and improving the global competitiveness of the country’s textile sector.
With a total allocation of ₹305 crore for the period from FY 2025–26 to FY 2030–31, the scheme aligns with the upcoming Finance Commission cycle. It will function as a Central Sector Scheme and will be entirely funded by the Ministry of Textiles.
Announcing the initiative, Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh stated that the Tex-RAMPS Scheme “brings together research, data, and innovation to empower India’s textile sector and position the nation as a global leader in sustainability, technology, and competitiveness.”
Tex-RAMPS has been conceptualised to future-proof India’s textiles and apparel (T&A) value chain by addressing key challenges in research, data infrastructure, innovation support, and skill and capacity development.
Key Components of Tex-RAMPS
1. Research & Innovation
Encourages advanced research in smart textiles, sustainability, process improvements, and emerging technologies to strengthen India’s innovation ecosystem.
2. Data, Analytics & Diagnostics
Focuses on building strong data frameworks such as employment assessments, supply chain mapping, and the India-Size study, enabling evidence-based policymaking.
3. Integrated Textiles Statistical System (ITSS)
A unified, real-time platform designed to provide comprehensive data and analytics to support structured monitoring and strategic decision-making.
4. Capacity Development & Knowledge Ecosystem
Aims to enhance State-level planning, share best practices, conduct capacity-building programmes, and host sector-specific events.
5. Start-up & Innovation Support
Provides assistance to incubators, hackathons, and collaboration between academia and industry to support high-value textile start-ups and entrepreneurial development.
