After introducing the New Combat Uniform (Digital Print), the Indian Army launched the New Coat Combat (Digital Print) in January 2025, marking another key advancement in its ongoing transformation initiatives.

Developed and designed by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), New Delhi, the New Coat Combat was created as part of a consultancy project under the Army Design Bureau. The three-layered structure incorporates advanced technical textile solutions and an ergonomic layout designed to enhance comfort, mobility, and operational performance across varied climatic and tactical environments.

The Army has officially registered the design of the New Coat Combat (Digital Print) with the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks in Kolkata under Design Application No. 449667-001, dated 27 February 2025. The design was later published in the Official Journal of the Patent Office on 07 October 2025.

With this registration, full and exclusive Intellectual Property Rights over the design and camouflage pattern now belong solely to the Indian Army. This legal protection restricts any unauthorised manufacturing, replication or commercial usage by non-authorised individuals or entities. Any violation of these rights will lead to legal action, including injunctions and damage claims under the Designs Act, 2000, Designs Rules, 2001, and the Patents Act, 1970.

The New Coat Combat system comprises three layers:

  • Outer Layer: A digitally printed camouflage coat engineered for durability and concealment across multiple terrains.
  • Inner Jacket: A lightweight and breathable insulated mid-layer offering warmth without limiting movement.
  • Thermal Layer: A base layer designed for effective thermal management and moisture control in extreme weather.

Together, these layers represent a significant enhancement in combat-ready apparel by integrating protection, comfort, and functional performance. This advancement showcases the Army’s continuous commitment to improving soldier welfare and accelerating transformation.

The achievement also highlights the Army’s strengthened focus on innovation, design safeguarding, and self-reliance in defence apparel systems—supporting the national vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and aligning with the Army’s ‘Decade of Transformation (2023–2032).’
