Avon Protection has announced the launch of the EXOSKIN-S2 high-performance CBRN protective suit. The new suit expands the company’s EXOSKIN protective ensemble range and is intended for military, first responder and special forces operators. It is designed for use across higher CBRN threat environments.
With the commercial release of the EXOSKIN-S2, users have additional options within the EXOSKIN range to address varying CBRN threat levels. The existing EXOSKIN-S1 is positioned as a low-weight (4.4lbs), low-burden system intended for lower-risk operations, while the EXOSKIN-S2 is designed for operations involving higher threat exposure.
The EXOSKIN-S2 incorporates an activated carbon fabric (ACF) inner layer to provide protection against aerosol threats, vapor, liquid and particulate chemical warfare agents (CWAs). The suit also features a low-noise outer layer and is intended to support operations in CBRN environments for durations of up to 24 hours.
The EXOSKIN-S2 follows the ‘suit as a system’ approach used in the EXOSKIN-S1, enabling integration with CBRN protective equipment such as Avon Protection respirators, EXOSKIN-B1 boots and EXOSKIN-G1 gloves. The design includes an integrated hood with a double elasticated aperture to create a protective seal around the respirator while maintaining mobility. Additional features include hook and loop adjustable tabs on the lower legs, a thumb loop, and an inner leg gaiter with stirrup to help prevent ingress during use.
Across the EXOSKIN range, common design elements include quarter zip and full zip options with hook and loop fastening to support compatibility with body armor. The suits are also available in multiple outer fabric patterns and color formulations intended to reduce user detection in hostile environments.
“Our EXOSKIN range has been designed to protect operators from CBRN threats while reducing the physiological burden, so they stay more comfortable for longer,” Steve Elwell, President, Avon Protection, said. “With EXOSKIN-S2, we are giving users a greater choice of protection levels and continuing to deliver the Avon Protection quality assurance they know and trust to keep their operators safe in demanding environments.”
