Tamil Nadu Boosts Technical Textiles with T3 Mission

Tamil Nadu is strengthening its position in high-value textile manufacturing with the introduction of the Tamil Nadu Technical Textiles Mission (T3 Mission), a key initiative announced in the State Budget 2025–26. With an allocated budget of ₹15 crore, the mission is being implemented by the Department of Textiles, Government of Tamil Nadu, with the objective of promoting technical textile production, attracting investments, and establishing the state as a leading hub for advanced textile manufacturing.

Designed as an industry-focused programme, the T3 Mission is supported by a dedicated Project Management Team (PMT) within the Directorate of Textiles, along with a panel of national and international technical experts. This structure provides comprehensive support across the project lifecycle—from concept development to commissioning—enabling both new and existing enterprises to diversify into the rapidly expanding technical textiles sector.

In its initial phase, the Department conducted extensive outreach initiatives, including awareness and engagement sessions across major textile clusters such as Tirupur, Karur, Madurai, and Salem. These efforts have generated significant interest among industry stakeholders, many of whom are now exploring opportunities in technical textiles with guidance from empanelled consultants.

Building on this foundation, the mission’s second phase introduces financial incentives to encourage industry participation. Eligible units can avail support covering up to 50% of the total technical assistance cost, subject to a maximum of ₹50 lakh per unit. The funding is disbursed in a milestone-based manner to ensure transparency and effective implementation.

To enhance global exposure and strengthen industry linkages, the Department is also organizing a government-industry delegation to Techtextil Frankfurt 2026, scheduled from April 21–24 in Frankfurt, Germany. The delegation, comprising around 10 entrepreneurs, will gain insights into global technologies, emerging trends, and innovative products, while also exploring opportunities for collaboration with international manufacturers.

Additionally, the T3 Mission is actively fostering international partnerships, including joint venture opportunities with leading Taiwanese companies in segments such as activewear, athleisure, nonwovens, and footwear.

With strong policy backing and growing industry participation, the T3 Mission is expected to play a pivotal role in transforming Tamil Nadu’s textile landscape. By driving innovation, enabling investments, and enhancing export potential, the initiative aims to position the state as a key player in the global technical textiles industry.
