Uzbekistan to Welcome Global Cotton Leaders in October

The global cotton and textile industry will gather in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on October 7, 2026, as the Government of Uzbekistan and the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) host the official World Cotton Day 2026 Partners Conference at the Hyatt Regency.

Held under the theme “Cotton for Good: Building Prosperity Through Trade, Transformation and Partnership,” the conference will bring together policymakers, international organizations, cotton producers, textile manufacturers, researchers, development institutions, technology providers, and industry stakeholders from across the global cotton value chain.

The event, which will be open to the public, aims to strengthen international collaboration while exploring strategies to enhance cotton’s contribution to trade, employment, sustainability, and economic development.

Since its launch in 2019, World Cotton Day has evolved into an important international platform highlighting the significance of cotton in global agriculture and the textile industry. The annual celebration is jointly supported by several leading international organizations, including the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), International Trade Centre (ITC), United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the World Trade Organization (WTO).

According to Ibrokhim Y. Abdurakhmonov, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Agriculture, hosting the event reflects the country’s commitment to strengthening global cooperation across the cotton and textile sectors.

He emphasized that the conference will provide an important opportunity for participants to exchange ideas, develop partnerships, and explore how cotton can contribute to employment generation, trade expansion, investment growth, and sustainable economic development.

The conference agenda will focus on several key themes shaping the future of the cotton industry, including:

  • Trade, Transformation, and Partnership: How Cotton Builds Prosperity

  • Building Prosperity Across the Cotton Value Chain

  • Trust, Quality, and Responsible Cotton Supply Chains

  • Investment, Innovation, and Competitiveness in Cotton Economies

  • Carbon Markets and Climate Finance: New Opportunities for Cotton Farmers

Discussions will examine practical solutions for improving cotton productivity, increasing domestic value addition through textile manufacturing, enhancing product traceability, strengthening relationships with global buyers, and creating new revenue opportunities through sustainable practices.

Special attention will be given to climate-related initiatives, including carbon markets and climate finance mechanisms that can help cotton farmers adapt to changing environmental conditions while improving their economic resilience.

ICAC Executive Director Eric B. Trachtenberg noted that World Cotton Day provides a valuable opportunity to recognize cotton’s economic and social significance while addressing the challenges facing the sector.

He added that opening the official celebration to the public would enable broader participation in discussions surrounding the future of cotton and create greater awareness of the industry’s evolving opportunities.

The conference will conclude on October 8, 2026, with a technical tour organized by the Government of Uzbekistan. The tour will showcase the country’s cotton and textile heritage, offering participants an opportunity to experience Uzbekistan’s craftsmanship, culture, and modern textile ecosystem firsthand.

As the cotton industry continues to navigate challenges related to sustainability, supply chain transparency, climate change, and global competitiveness, World Cotton Day 2026 is expected to serve as a significant platform for shaping the future of the global cotton economy.
