Packaging giants Amcor and Fedrigoni have partnered to launch a fully recyclable wet wipe package that meets the European Union’s forthcoming Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which requires all packaging to be recyclable by 2030.
The innovative solution combines Amcor’s AmPrima™ Plus mono-material flow wrap with Fedrigoni’s semi-rigid label, resulting in a flexible packaging design that is recyclable in polyethylene (PE) streams across Europe. The design has been independently certified as recyclable by RecyClass and cyclos-HTP.
This next-generation packaging reduces overall weight by up to 15% compared to traditional multi-material packs with rigid labels. According to Amcor’s Carbon Trust–certified methodology, it also cuts the carbon footprint by up to 55%. Companies adopting the packaging could benefit from up to a 35% reduction in extended producer responsibility (EPR) fees.
The AmPrima Plus wrap can incorporate post-consumer recycled content, supporting compliance with future EU requirements for recycled plastic in packaging.
“This collaboration delivers a packaging solution ready for circularity,” said Geoffrey Gendebien, Marketing Manager at Amcor. Federico Lanzi, R&D Director at Fedrigoni, emphasized the importance of recyclable materials in meeting environmental targets.
This launch marks a significant step toward sustainable innovation in home and personal care packaging.
