Archroma, a global specialty chemicals company known for its focus on sustainable solutions, has funded the renovation and creation of a sustainable textile laboratory at the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai, under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The upgraded laboratory is set to enhance the department’s ability to pursue fundamental research and develop forward-looking technologies in textile processing, manufacturing, and effluent management. The facility aims to support industry needs by fostering innovation in environmentally responsible and resource-efficient textile technologies.

As part of its CSR contribution, Archroma is also improving the educational environment by equipping students with modern infrastructure for hands-on learning, scientific experimentation, and advanced technical training. These enhancements will help prepare students with the competencies required to meet evolving industry demands and strengthen foundational textile processing education.
The initiative further boosts the department’s technological readiness at a time when only a limited number of institutions continue to offer specialized expertise in textile sciences. The upgraded facility will enable ICT to maintain relevance with changing academic and industrial expectations.
“Our support to ICT is part of Archroma’s ongoing commitment to education and community development under our CSR program. We aim to contribute to an improved learning environment that enables students and researchers to develop skills relevant to sustainable textile practices. We are pleased to collaborate with ICT in strengthening academic infrastructure that benefits society,” said Anjani Prasad, Regional Vice President, India.

Beyond strengthening academic capabilities, the new laboratory is also envisioned as a platform for community engagement. The department plans to host training programs for small-scale entrepreneurs, artisans, and local stakeholders to promote knowledge exchange, eco-friendly textile processing, and value-added practices aligned with sustainable development.
“The upgrade of our textile laboratory, supported through the funding from Archroma, will significantly enhance our teaching and research ecosystem. This will help students, researchers, and community stakeholders access improved facilities and work on solutions aligned with sustainable development. We appreciate Archroma’s support in strengthening academic capability for the broader societal benefit,” stated Mr. Ashok Athley, Head of the Department of Fibers & Textile Processing Technology at ICT.
