Archroma has funded the renovation and development of a sustainable textile laboratory at the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) in Mumbai as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. The upgraded facility is designed to boost research in textile processing, manufacturing and effluent treatment, with an emphasis on sustainable and resource-efficient technologies.
The new lab will enhance ICT’s capability to address current industry challenges while supporting the development of future-oriented processes. As part of its CSR efforts, Archroma is also helping improve the student learning environment by providing modern infrastructure for hands-on training and scientific work. This is expected to equip students with the skills needed for evolving industry demands, especially at a time when few institutes offer specialised textile-focused education.
According to Anjani Prasad, Regional Vice President for India, the initiative reflects Archroma’s commitment to education and community development, aiming to strengthen academic infrastructure that supports sustainability-focused textile practices.
The facility is also expected to serve the wider community. ICT plans to conduct training programs for small business owners, artisans and local stakeholders to promote eco-friendly processes and knowledge-sharing aligned with sustainable development goals.
Ashok Athley, Head of the Department of Fibres & Textile Processing Technology, stated that the upgraded lab will significantly improve the institute’s teaching and research capabilities, benefiting students, researchers and community partners working on sustainability-driven solutions.
