May 8, 2025 – Australia is introducing its first-ever national strategy to revitalize domestic apparel manufacturing, aiming to build a sustainable, innovative, and competitive garment industry.
Led by the Australian Fashion Council (AFC), the initiative brings together key industry players to modernize manufacturing, encourage homegrown production, and foster a circular economy in the fashion sector. The strategy also aims to reduce dependence on offshore manufacturing, cut environmental impact, and create skilled jobs across the country.
This move comes at a pivotal time as the industry contends with global supply chain disruptions and increasing calls for ethical, eco-conscious production. By strengthening local capabilities, Australia positions itself to lead in sustainable fashion manufacturing, aligning with international trends toward responsible consumption.
The strategy is expected to reshape the future of fashion in Australia—combining innovation, sustainability, and economic resilience.
