Barmag Focuses on Sustainability with Its DTY Solutions

Remscheid, April 03, 2025 – With a strong commitment to sustainability, Barmag, a subsidiary of the Swiss Oerlikon Group, is showcasing its advanced solutions for Draw Textured Yarn (DTY) and carpet yarn production at the Morocco Stitch & Tex Expo in Casablanca. From May 13 to 15, visitors can engage with experts from Barmag and its joint venture BB Engineering (BBE) at the Unionmatex booth (Booth B4) to explore the latest innovations in chemical fiber machinery.

Sustainable and Efficient DTY Yarn Production

Oerlikon Barmag provides a diverse range of DTY machine configurations designed for the efficient and eco-friendly production of high-quality textured yarns from various polymers, including polyester, polyamide, polypropylene, PLA, and PTT. Its modular machines—both manual and automatic—ensure optimal operational expenditure (OPEX) while delivering superior yarn quality for downstream processing.

Growing Demand for Fancy Yarns

The market demand for specialty textiles with unique characteristics is steadily increasing. To support the production of effect yarns, such as cotton-like DTY, linen-like DTY, and wool-like DTY, Oerlikon Barmag offers specialized processes and components. With its cutting-edge technology and deep expertise in yarn processing, the company is a reliable partner for flexible production and ongoing innovation in specialty yarns.

Expanded Product Range for Carpet Yarns

Leveraging its extensive expertise in manmade fiber spinning, Oerlikon Barmag is the only global manufacturer capable of expanding its offerings for carpet yarn production. Its system, which integrates a POY and texturing process, is specifically designed for the carpet and home textile industry. This solution produces exceptionally soft and bulky polyester yarns with BCF-like properties. The system can manufacture yarns with titers up to 1300dtex and over 1000 filaments, including 1300dtex f1152, 660dtex f1152, and 990dtex f768. The concept incorporates the well-known WINGS HD POY winder and the eAFK Big-V texturing machine.

Innovative Bicomponent BCF Yarn for the Carpet Industry

With a focus on quality, efficiency, and performance, Oerlikon Neumag, a product brand of Barmag, has introduced a new bicomponent BCF yarn for carpet manufacturing. This innovative BICO-BCF yarn offers increased volume and richness while significantly reducing raw material consumption during carpet production.

VarioFil® – A Versatile Compact Spinning System

BBE’s VarioFil® system is ideal for a wide range of applications, including carpets, upholstery, fashion, sports textiles, seat belts, and airbags. This compact, turnkey spinning line is particularly well-suited for small-batch or specialty producers, offering the flexibility to process various polymers such as PET, PP, PA 6, PA 6.6, and PBT. When combined with Oerlikon Barmag texturing machines, the system produces both standard textile yarns and textured yarns with BCF-like properties.

The VarioFil® R+ model enhances sustainability by enabling the direct recycling of PET bottle flakes and production waste into POY. This eco-friendly solution provides high product flexibility, including the capability to manufacture spun-dyed yarns.

JeTex® Air Texturing – Expanding the Product Portfolio

BB Engineering also offers advanced air texturing solutions with the JeTex® system, which complements Oerlikon Barmag’s DTY technology. This system enables the production of high-quality Air Textured Yarn (ATY) from POY and FDY for diverse textile applications. At its core is a specially developed texturing box, which ensures gentle yarn handling, reliable texturing effects, and superior production efficiency.

“From Waste to Value” – Sustainable PET Recycling with VacuFil and Visco

BBE’s VacuFil PET recycling system transforms textile waste into premium-quality rPET melt. Drawing from decades of expertise in extrusion, filtration, and spinning, this technology combines large-area filtration with precise Intrinsic Viscosity (IV) control. VacuFil processes various inputs, including bottle flakes, production waste, and post-consumer waste, while the patented Visco+ component eliminates volatile contaminants and automatically adjusts IV levels. The recycled melt can be reintegrated into the main production stream, pelletized into chips, or directly reintroduced into the spinning mill. The modular VacuFil system can be tailored to meet specific customer requirements.

Through these cutting-edge solutions, Barmag continues to drive sustainability and innovation in the textile industry.
