Ahead of the upcoming BGMEA elections, a contesting forum has launched a 14-point manifesto aimed at strengthening Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) industry. The agenda emphasizes support for small and medium factories, safeguarding workers’ rights, and fostering sustainable, eco-friendly practices.
Among the key proposals are the formation of a dedicated garment ministry, holding international buyers accountable, and expanding into new markets to reduce over-reliance on a few clients.
The forum also recommends vital policy shifts to assist struggling factories—such as a structured exit plan for owners and a broader economic recovery strategy. Technological improvements are also a priority, including digital ID cards for mid-level managers, automation of bonded warehouse operations, and the rollout of cost-effective digital solutions for better factory management.
Other commitments include reforming BUFT (BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology), introducing a global green index for sustainability, and extending cash incentives through 2026. Transparency and good governance within BGMEA are central themes of the forum’s proposed reforms.
