Bluesign Celebrates 25 Years of Sustainable Leadership

Bluesign is commemorating 25 years of pioneering sustainability in the textile industry. Since its inception, the company has worked to embed environmental responsibility into the core of product creation. Today, it stands as a global standard in sustainable textile production, with a network of over 900 partners, including chemical suppliers, manufacturers, brands, and retailers.

In 2024, bluesign and its system partners achieved significant impact reductions:

  • CO₂ emissions cut by 17%,
  • Energy usage down by 14%,
  • Freshwater consumption reduced by 8%,
  • 140+ chemical supplier assessments,
  • 300+ manufacturer evaluations completed.

These outcomes, detailed in the 2024 System Impact Report, reflect the power of bluesign’s total solution approach—focusing on primary data, measurable progress, and continuous improvement.

In addition to external progress, bluesign also underwent internal transformations in 2024 to better align with its parent company, SGS, and expand engagement across more than 1,000 global brands. As regulatory requirements grow and consumer expectations shift, bluesign’s platform continues to lead with transparency, safety, and environmental accountability.

Daniel Rüfenacht, CEO of bluesign, said:

“25 years ago, bluesign was born out of a bold idea, that sustainability could be embedded into the DNA of product creation. Twenty-five years later, we are proud to be a beacon of trust, innovation, and responsibility, and to partner with industry leaders worldwide in building a more sustainable future together.”

He added:

“I would like to conclude by thanking bluesign employees and our System Partner companies in making, every day, our vision of a safer and better planet a reality. I look forward to new partners joining us in our mission to create a world where textiles enrich lives without compromising health or the environment.”
