Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology recently hosted the third round of the BYD-ASDC EV Innovate-A-Thon, a collaborative initiative between BYD India and the Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC). The event marks a pivotal stage in the competition, where student teams presented physical EV prototypes and pitched their ideas to an expert jury.
Out of 3,200+ participants nationwide, only 10 teams made it to this phase. With the support of dedicated mentors, the finalists showcased innovations focused on sustainability, engineering, and real-world EV applications. The judging panel praised the students’ confidence and technical knowledge.
ASDC President Mr. F. R. Singhvi highlighted the initiative’s goal of nurturing industry-ready talent and fostering innovation in India’s growing EV sector. “This competition is a glimpse into India’s future in electric mobility,” he stated.
Launched in July 2024, the Innovate-A-Thon began with a national-level digital quiz, followed by a digital prototype submission round. The current phase evaluates technical functionality, innovation, market relevance, and presentation quality.
Mr. Rajeev Chauhan, Vice President at BYD India, emphasized the program’s role in equipping students to lead the shift to sustainable mobility. “We’re witnessing the power of young minds solving real-world challenges,” he said.
The initiative underscores the importance of hands-on, industry-aligned education and continues to set a benchmark in experiential learning for the automotive industry.
