Thermaissance, a Bharat-based technical textile innovator, announced that its ThermaEdge Cold-Weather Balaclava and Two-Layer Smart Blanket have successfully passed field evaluations conducted by the Indian Army Northern Command. Tested under extreme cold and high-altitude conditions, these products were deemed suitable for operational use.
The trials, conducted from 14 February to 19 April 2025 by HQ Northern Command and executed by HQ 102 Infantry Brigade (Siachen Brigade), assessed the items with forward-deployed troops in sub-zero Himalayan terrain. Evaluations focused on thermal efficiency, comfort, hygiene, and durability, with results showing satisfactory performance across all areas.
The Cold-Weather Balaclava offers advanced protection with dual-layer insulation for heat retention, wind resistance, UPF 60+ sun protection, and moisture-wicking, breathable, and lightweight materials that resist odour. Its fabrics are antimicrobial, hypoallergenic, and pH-neutral, clinically tested to prevent bacterial or fungal growth, ensuring prolonged comfort and safety during extended missions.
The Two-Layer Smart Blanket delivers versatile thermal protection, retaining body heat while remaining lightweight (under 1,600 grams), breathable, and quick-drying. It serves multiple purposes—as a blanket, sleeping bag liner, ground sheet, or improvised shelter—and features antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties compliant with US MIL STD 810G antifungal durability standards, ensuring hygiene and odour control in prolonged field use.
