Dixon Technologies has announced a strategic partnership with NxtCell India to manufacture Alcatel-branded smartphones domestically. Production is set to begin within the next 12 to 18 months through Dixon’s subsidiary, Padget Electronics.
This initiative marks Alcatel’s return to the Indian market, with plans to manufacture a variety of smartphones and feature phones designed specifically for Indian consumers. The collaboration supports India’s push for self-reliance in electronics and aims to reduce dependence on imports.
NxtCell India, which holds exclusive rights to the Alcatel brand in India, will invest $30 million into the venture. The move is expected to generate employment and further the goals of the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.
Atul Lall, Vice Chairman and MD of Dixon Technologies, emphasized that the partnership will strengthen domestic supply chains and make affordable mobile devices more accessible to Indian users.
Dixon, already a major player in electronics manufacturing with clients like Google, Xiaomi, and Vivo, continues to expand its footprint in the mobile phone industry with this new venture.
