Drone Major has introduced a first-of-its-kind managed procurement platform designed specifically for the global drone industry. The system aims to streamline procurement, accelerate major projects, and open new opportunities for UK-based SMEs in the fast-growing robotics and drone sector.
The platform builds on Drone Major’s existing supplier ecosystem, which recently gained attention after the company received approval from the UK Civil Aviation Authority for the first BVLOS (beyond visual line of sight) drone flights over the UK’s Critical National Infrastructure in May 2025. The upgraded system now connects international suppliers with significant procurement prospects in drones, robotics, and unmanned systems.
Drone Major’s Founder and CEO, Robert Garbett, stated that while the UK has strong technological capabilities, SMEs have lacked an efficient route to access major contract opportunities. He described the new platform as a major step toward enabling small businesses to navigate complex procurement processes and strengthen the UK’s position in the global drone landscape. He also highlighted its potential to boost supply chain independence and reduce reliance on imports from China.
The global drone and robotics market is expected to rise from £55 billion in 2024 to £121 billion in 2030 [1], creating substantial growth potential for British SMEs.
The new platform operates as a B2B marketplace, connecting vetted suppliers and buyers worldwide. Drone Major will oversee the entire supply chain—from bid evaluation and vendor selection to compliance, regulatory approvals, project management, logistics, quality checks, and final delivery.
Garbett added that the platform reflects the company’s full technical capability and is designed to support the delivery of comprehensive unmanned systems solutions. He said it aims to reshape procurement in the UK by reducing costs, saving time, and improving how enterprises collaborate with SME suppliers.
The platform is now available for industry use.
