ESSCI Welcomes New Chip Unit Eyes 1 Lakh+ Jobs by 2030

ESSCI Applauds Sixth Semiconductor Plant, Projects Major Job Growth

The Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI) has welcomed the Union Cabinet’s approval of a sixth semiconductor manufacturing facility under the India Semiconductor Mission. This marks another step forward in India’s journey toward self-reliance in high-tech manufacturing.

With five facilities already under development, the latest addition strengthens India’s role in the global semiconductor ecosystem. According to ESSCI, the chipmaking sector is expected to create over 1.03 lakh new jobs by 2030, with employment reaching 1.87 lakh by 2026. These roles span across chip design, fabrication, testing, quality control, and advanced manufacturing.

“This is a strategic leap for India’s technological future,” said Mr. Saleem Ahmed, Officiating Head, ESSCI. “We see not only infrastructure growth but also massive opportunities for youth employment and skill development.”

ESSCI is currently running over 26 targeted training programs in semiconductors and electronic components, aiming to equip young professionals with specialized skills in chip design, fabrication, and packaging.

The organization urges stakeholders to invest in talent development to keep pace with the sector’s expansion. A skilled workforce, they note, is key to sustaining India’s position as a global semiconductor leader.
