Geotextiles Promoted as Key to Safer Roads and Embankments
At a seminar hosted by the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), experts from the textile and engineering sectors gathered to explore the expanding role of geotextiles in national development.
Geotextiles—specialized fabrics used in construction—can significantly improve road stability, embankment reinforcement, and drainage systems by enhancing soil strength and reducing erosion.
Speakers highlighted the growing adoption of geotextiles in Bangladesh but pointed out the need for greater awareness, updated technology, and skilled labor. The potential for local production was also emphasized, offering opportunities to reduce import dependency and support domestic and international infrastructure demands.
The event concluded with a strong call for collaboration between industry, academia, and policymakers to drive innovation, training, and investment in geotextile technology. Experts agreed that, with the right support, geotextiles can play a vital role in building climate-resilient and sustainable infrastructure across Bangladesh.
