The Fairtrade in India Conference 2025 – Sustainability, Markets & Impact began on September 9 at The Chancery Pavilion, Bengaluru, uniting global and Indian producers, policymakers, sustainability leaders, and businesses. Backed by the EU SWITCH-Asia Programme and EC FFPA, the event placed producers at the centre of sustainable trade conversations while spotlighting Fairtrade’s role in promoting fairness, climate resilience, and ethical sourcing.
The plenary session, Future is Fair – Sustainability, Markets & Impact, featured key global voices:
- Franck Viault (EU Delegation) underscored the EU’s commitment to building transparent, inclusive, and fair supply chains with India, ensuring producers lead sustainable growth.
- Lisa Prassack (Fairtrade International) emphasized that true progress means every farmer thrives with dignity, and that Fairtrade’s mission is to build climate-resilient futures through innovation and partnerships.
- Blaise Desbordes (Max Havelaar France) highlighted Fairtrade’s ability to combine economic empowerment with environmental protection, positioning India as a key partner in sustainable sourcing.
- Claudia Brück (Fairtrade Germany) stressed that Fairtrade is a global movement proving economic success can coexist with social responsibility, making fairness the norm.
- Bindu S (Fairtrade NAPP) celebrated India’s leadership in Fairtrade, with over 100,000 farmers and workers redefining sustainable trade by placing women and youth at the core.
- Abhishek Jani (Fairtrade India Project) shared India’s growth story, noting Fairtrade fashion sales have more than doubled, with one garment sold every minute, and Fairtrade product GMV tripling in two years.
The conference affirmed that sustainability is now imperative, not optional. Over two days, it will address decarbonization in textiles, EU sustainability regulations, livelihoods, and climate action, alongside the launch of Mosegi India Pvt. Ltd. and its Fairtrade-powered brand MOSEGI.
