Faster biodegrading PLA

Now offered worldwide, Teijin Frontier’s Biofront polylactic acid (PLA) resin biodegrades more quickly in soil, rivers, and seas than traditional PLA products.

Compared to PLA polymers without additives, the addition of a new biodegradation accelerator to the polymer accelerates hydrolysis, material consumption, and bacterial and fungal breakdown.

Even in soil and marine conditions, where there are less bacteria and fungus than in high-temperature, high-humidity composting systems, Biofront resin demonstrates fast biodegradation capability. By modifying the accelerator’s loading and incorporation settings, the decomposition time may be further regulated.

Another benefit of Biofront resin is that, in addition to being utilised in textile and nonwoven fibres, it can be treated similarly to traditional PLA polymer resins used in films, injection-molded items, and extruded goods.

Because Biofront PLA resin is created from plant-derived raw materials, it will help reduce microplastics because of its faster rate of biodegradation and CO2 emissions throughout the product lifespan.
