Global Textile Machinery Shipments: Mixed Trends in 2024

The 47th International Textile Machinery Shipment Statistics (ITMSS) by the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) reveals that 2024 witnessed mixed results in global textile machinery shipments.

Spinning Machinery:
Short-staple spindle shipments fell by 40% to 5.92 million units. Asia & Oceania dominated with 90% of deliveries, though volumes dropped significantly across all major regions. Only South America and Eastern Europe recorded minor increases. Open-end rotor shipments also declined by 39%, led by drops in China, India, and Türkiye. However, Vietnam and Bangladesh saw strong growth in rotor imports.

In contrast, long-staple spindle shipments surged by 62% to 600,000 units, largely driven by demand from Iran, China, and Vietnam.

Texturing Machinery:
Single-heater draw-texturing spindles grew by 95%, while double-heater types rose by 80%. China led the demand in both categories, accounting for the vast majority of shipments.

Weaving Machinery:
Shuttle-less loom deliveries increased by 32%, driven by gains in water-jet (+56%) and air-jet (+10%) types. Rapier and projectile looms dropped by 7%. China remained the primary destination for all categories.

Knitting Machinery:
Large circular knitting machine shipments fell by 15%, with China experiencing a sharp 42% decline. On the other hand, electronic flat knitting machines grew by 16%, with Asia & Oceania receiving 96% of shipments.

Finishing Machinery:
Stenter shipments in the fabrics continuous segment rose by 22%. Dyeing machinery showed a mixed performance, with CPB dyeing lines dropping 53%, while hotflue lines jumped 390%. In the fabrics discontinuous segment, jigger/beam dyeing units dropped by 44%, but air-jet and overflow dyeing equipment rose by 18% and 5%, respectively.

The survey involved over 200 global machinery manufacturers and provides a comprehensive view of global production and investment trends in textile machinery.
