New Delhi, May 2025 – The Indian Biogas Association (IBA) has welcomed the government’s move to increase the purchase price of compressed biogas (CBG). Effective from June 1 to October 31, 2025, the new rate will rise from ₹1,380 to ₹1,478 per MMBTU, as per a notification by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
IBA Chairman Gaurav Kedia acknowledged the revision as a positive step, but emphasized that the new rate still falls short of covering production costs. He called for a more substantial price adjustment and proposed a green certification framework to incentivize companies in reducing their carbon footprint.
The association stressed that improved pricing would not only boost investor confidence, but also support SMEs in the biogas sector, leading to enhanced decentralized production. This, in turn, would align with national clean energy goals, promote waste-to-energy solutions, and contribute to a sustainable, low-carbon economy.
