India–UK FTA to Boost Denim & Apparel Exports

Suketu Shah, CEO of Vishal Fabrics, Applauds India–UK FTA

Suketu Shah, CEO of Vishal Fabrics Ltd., views the India–UK Free Trade Agreement as a transformative opportunity for India’s textile industry, particularly in denim and apparel. With the FTA now providing duty-free access for 99% of Indian textile exports—including garments and fabrics—the removal of 10–12% import tariffs by the UK opens the door to enhanced global competitiveness for Indian producers.

He emphasized that this tariff elimination will significantly lower production costs, making Indian denim and casual wear more price-attractive in the UK. This will allow Indian brands to expand their market share and respond with greater pricing agility. The expected $5 billion uplift in textile exports is a testament to the agreement’s potential to reshape trade dynamics.

Mr. Shah added that the FTA aligns with India’s vision of becoming a global textile hub, giving manufacturers the edge needed to expand internationally and drive sustainable growth across the sector.
