Rajeev Gupta, Joint MD of RSWM Ltd., Welcomes India–UK FTA
The recently concluded India–UK Free Trade Agreement is a milestone in global trade, says Rajeev Gupta, Joint Managing Director of RSWM Ltd. According to him, the elimination of tariffs on nearly all Indian textile and apparel exports to the UK is a game-changer for the industry. With the UK importing apparel worth $19–20 billion annually, the removal of 12–16% duties on Indian products—including garments, textiles, footwear, and carpets—will significantly enhance India’s export competitiveness.
Mr. Gupta anticipates a sharp rise in trade, as almost 99% of Indian exports to the UK are now duty-free. He highlighted that this will fuel job creation and empower labour-intensive sectors. RSWM Ltd. sees this agreement as a major opportunity to expand its presence in the UK, strengthen supply chains, and upgrade value-added product lines. Moreover, lower tariffs on UK-origin technical textiles will support India’s domestic innovation and product development.
“This pact ushers in a new era of collaborative growth and innovation between India and the UK,” he said.
