The Alliance for European Flax-Linen & Hemp is actively promoting the use of sustainable natural fibres—such as flax and hemp—in modern construction. These eco-friendly materials are not only durable and lightweight but also help reduce the environmental impact of building projects.
A standout example supported by the Alliance is the Cité Scolaire Internationale Jacques Chirac in Marseille, France. Designed by architects Rudy Ricciotti and Roland Carta, the school features 880 cladding panels made from flax-based composites. The project demonstrates how natural fibres can deliver both strength and architectural elegance on a large scale.
As the construction industry moves toward more sustainable practices, renewable materials like flax and hemp are gaining popularity. The Alliance continues to advocate for these alternatives, aiming to make natural fibres a mainstream choice in eco-conscious architecture.
