Partnership Announced to Develop Next-Generation Sustainable Fibre

International technology group ANDRITZ has entered into a partnership with Tandem Repeat Technologies, a biotechnology innovator, to commercialize Procell, a next-generation sustainable fiber. The collaboration combines ANDRITZ’s engineering and manufacturing expertise with Tandem Repeat’s biotechnology advancements, aiming to provide industrial-scale solutions for textile and nonwoven fiber production.

Procell, developed and patented by Tandem Repeat, is a protein-based biomanufactured fiber that delivers wool-like softness, excellent strength, durability, and versatility, making it suitable for diverse applications in textiles and nonwovens.

Through this partnership, both companies intend to support the textile industry’s shift toward sustainability by offering eco-friendly alternatives to traditional synthetic fibers. The solutions will leverage ANDRITZ’s proven process equipment, optimized for Procell production, while Tandem Repeat continues to enhance and refine the fiber’s proprietary technology.

Dr. Sergey Malkov, Vice President of Manmade Cellulosic Fibers at ANDRITZ, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating:

“We are pleased to collaborate with Tandem Repeat on this exciting product. Procell fiber has the potential to be a true breakthrough in sustainable materials.”

Dr. Melik Demirel, Co-founder of Tandem Repeat, added:

“By partnering with ANDRITZ, we can bring our revolutionary fiber to market on a commercial scale. This will support industries in achieving sustainable production and supply chain resilience.”

The initiative highlights a major step in accelerating the global transition toward sustainable fiber production through the integration of advanced biotechnology and engineering innovation.
