Raksha Mantri visits Defence Materials and Stores Research & Development Establishment, a DRDO lab in Kanpur

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh visited the Defence Materials and Stores Research & Development Establishment (DMSRDE), a DRDO laboratory located in Kanpur, on November 30, 2025. During the visit, he reviewed the ongoing advancements in defence materials research and the innovative technologies currently being developed at the facility.

The Director of DMSRDE briefed the Raksha Mantri on the laboratory’s vision, mission, mandate, major projects, and priority technology domains. A wide range of materials, technologies, and products created by DMSRDE were showcased, including ceramics and ceramic matrix composites, stealth and camouflage technologies, nanomaterials, coatings, polymer and rubber systems, fuels and lubricants, technical textiles, and advanced personal protection solutions.

Shri Rajnath Singh lauded the laboratory for its successful development of key defence products. These include the Level-6 Bullet Proof Jacket, Naphthyl Fuel designed for the BrahMos Missile, high-pressure polymeric membranes used in Indian Coast Guard vessels, Silicon Carbide Fibre, and Activated Carbon Fabric-based Chemical, Biological, Radiological & Nuclear (CBRN) suits, along with several other stealth-related technologies. He underlined that technology development must always remain closely aligned with the operational needs of end users.

The Raksha Mantri also commended DMSRDE for completing a significant number of technology transfers over the last two years, supporting the Government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. He encouraged the laboratory to explore export opportunities for its defence technologies and emphasised the importance of strengthening MSME and industrial interactions through the DTTC in Lucknow to meet the evolving requirements of industry. He praised the establishment’s growing collaboration with industry and academic institutions in contributing to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Earlier in the day, Shri Rajnath Singh paid floral tribute to former President and Bharat Ratna Dr APJ Abdul Kalam at his statue located on the premises. He was welcomed by Dr Samir V Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defence (R&D) and Chairman, DRDO.
