At the 2025 Future Fabrics Expo in London, RE&UP convened a high-impact industry breakfast session titled “Yesterday’s garments, today’s raw materials – what’s holding us back?” The closed-door discussion brought together over 50 key stakeholders across the textile value chain, including brands, recyclers, certifiers, media, and sustainability leaders.
Moderated by Keith O’Brien, RE&UP’s Senior PR & Marketing Manager, the panel featured Nienke Steen of Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute and Priyanka Khanna from Fashion for Good. Together, they unpacked systemic and technical challenges hindering the scaling of textile-to-textile recycling, including:
- Infrastructure and funding gaps
- The need for certification and standardized protocols
- Cross-sector collaboration models accelerating change
The discussion emphasized collaboration as the catalyst for overcoming fragmentation and scaling circular systems in fashion.
RE&UP’s General Manager Andreas Dorner reinforced the company’s commitment:
“Yesterday’s garments are already today’s raw materials. There are still challenges, but we’re operating at scale – and with the right partners, we’ll continue to do better.”
The session highlighted RE&UP’s leadership in fostering open dialogue and collaborative action to advance textile circularity and transition recycling ambitions into tangible impact.
