Professional wipes manufacturer Sontara has unveiled a new sustainable wipes range made entirely from environmentally responsible raw materials. The collection uses recycled PET from post-consumer bottles, plastic-free fibres such as viscose, lyocell, and cotton, and natural wood pulp—creating what is currently considered one of the broadest sustainable wipe portfolios on the market.
Produced at Sontara’s facility in northern Spain, the new range achieves up to 42% lower CO₂ emissions compared to the company’s standard products and records up to a 70% reduction in transport-related emissions when compared with equivalent imports from Asia. Each product offers transparency through industry-recognised sustainability metrics, alongside improved supply chain efficiency and flexibility.
Developed to maintain the same high standard of performance as Sontara’s conventional wipes, the new range delivers the strength, absorbency, and ultra-low lint performance that have long defined the brand—without the environmental burden.
The portfolio includes several eco-optimised variations of its Sontara EC engineered cloth and Sontara TriFlo multilayer technology, all produced without binders, chemicals, or silicones:
- Sontara EC Green and Sontara EC Green Natural: fully biodegradable, cellulosic wipes made with natural wood pulp for a more natural appearance and reduced chemical use.
- Sontara EC Recycled and Sontara EC Recycled Natural: wipes made with rPET, with the Natural variant also incorporating wood pulp.
- Sontara TriFlo Green: a 100% cellulosic multilayer wipe offering greater thickness, absorption, and the lowest lint in the range.
Beyond standard offerings, customers can customise solutions by selecting the preferred fibre blend, weight, colour, finish, and converting format to meet their industrial or technical requirements.
Designed for demanding cleaning applications in manufacturing, healthcare, cleanroom, and pharmaceutical sectors, the range meets strict regulatory standards. All products comply with the upcoming EU Deforestation Regulation and carry recognised certifications such as FSC, FCC food contact safety, OK Home Compost for biodegradable options, and GRS for recycled products.
Lorenzo Vaira, Product Manager for Europe at Chicopee and Sontara, said the launch marks a major milestone in sustainable cleaning: “Until now, options that balance high performance with environmental responsibility were limited. This range offers both sustainability and flexibility, enabling customers to meet performance, regulatory, and sustainability goals simultaneously.”
The new sustainable wipes portfolio is now available across Europe.
