Stretchable Fabric-Based Lithium-Ion Battery Breakthrough Unveiled at the University of Houston

In a groundbreaking development, a team of researchers at the University of Houston (UH) has unveiled a fully stretchable fabric-based lithium-ion battery, bringing us one step closer to a new era of smart fabrics and wearable devices with embedded electronics. Haleh Ardebili, Professor of Mechanical Engineering at UH and the driving force behind this breakthrough, elaborated on the technology. “The woven silver fabric mechanically deforms or stretches while still providing the necessary electrical conduction pathways for the battery electrode to function effectively. For a stretchable battery to work, it must allow for the movement of both electrons and ions, and our solution achieves just that,” she said.
