The five-year Tamil Nadu Technical Textiles Mission, with a total allocation of ₹15 crore, was officially launched on Wednesday (November 26, 2025) through a meeting held in Tiruppur by the Department of Textiles. The event brought together both aspiring and established technical textile entrepreneurs.
R. Lalitha, Mission Director and Director of Textiles, explained that entrepreneurs who already have clarity on the technical textile product they intend to manufacture—as well as their target market—can receive guidance from one of the mission’s empanelled consultants. The Mission will reimburse either ₹50 lakh or 50% of the consultancy fee. She added that several schemes offered by the Ministries of MSME and Textiles support investments in the technical textiles sector. A major challenge in Tamil Nadu has been the lack of awareness about technical textiles, despite the State’s strong leadership in spinning and knitwear, compared to western States which produce a wide variety of technical textile products.
Trade Facilitation Portal
The Tamil Nadu government also plans to host a technical textiles expo in Coimbatore every two years starting next year. Additionally, a trade facilitation portal will soon be introduced to connect manufacturers directly with buyers. Delegations are regularly sent to various hubs and markets nearly every month.
The Department will shortly provide subsidies to three or four companies to support research and development activities in technical textiles.
While addressing nearly 110 participants at the Tiruppur meeting, Lalitha emphasised that textile companies must focus on value addition and venture into technical textiles. Similar awareness and support sessions will be organised in Karur, Salem, Madurai, and Chennai. The Department aims to facilitate the establishment of at least 24 industrial units in technical textiles, accounting for an investment of ₹480 crore over the five-year period.
