Textil A. Ortiz Installs Fourth Monforts Montex

Through its strategic programme of continuous growth—focused on resource efficiency and environmental leadership—Spain’s Textil A. Ortiz has reinforced its standing as Europe’s premier supplier of high-quality lining fabrics.

Marking its 70th anniversary in 2024, the company has recently commissioned a fourth Monforts Montex stenter at its main facility in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda, located 25 km north of Barcelona. This plant is one of three operated by the company, alongside a second in Catalonia and a third in Valencia. Textil A. Ortiz’s collaboration with Monforts and its local partner Aguilar & Pineda dates back to the 1970s.

Trusted partner in innovation

The newly installed Montex line is being used for applying softeners, water repellents, and flame retardants, delivering significant cost savings. Customers benefit from a catalogue of over 1,000 stocked colours, along with special finishes and an extensive library of designs and prints.

“To be competitive in this sector, it is mandatory to keep working on innovation and fabric design with the latest technology, because for the major companies we work with, fast service, superior quality and unbeatable prices are paramount,” explains Xavier Mundet, Plant Manager at Santa Perpètua de Mogoda. “We have always trusted Monforts and have been very satisfied with the performance of our existing Montex stenters.”

The nine-chamber Montex 8500-9F, with a working width of 200 cm, is equipped with direct gas heating, Hercules needle chain, Matex finishing padder, and two heat exchangers. With heat recovery and the Monformatic Professional control system, energy use is minimised while ensuring reproducible fabric quality.

Zero water discharge milestone

“We have installed a water treatment system that operates through evaporation and condensation, making us the first dyeing and finishing company not to discharge water into public sewer systems,” highlights Abel Ortiz, Manager at Textil A. Ortiz.

Further investments include new circular knitting machines and expanding into lining fabrics made from recycled polyester. In addition, the Santa Perpètua de Mogoda plant is powered entirely by renewable energy, thanks to 15,000 sqm of photovoltaic panels and two wind turbines.

“Our customer is very happy with the energy savings it is experiencing on the new machines compared to older stenters,” notes Oriol Canet, Sales Manager at Aguilar & Pineda. “With the latest Montex stenters, energy savings of up to 40% are now possible compared to conventional systems without energy optimisation.”

“Local service and sustainability are increasingly valued today, which is a situation we are very happy with,” concludes Abel Ortiz. “Reliable technology partners like Monforts allow us to achieve further advancements in these areas.”
