Company Launches Twist(TM), High-Performance Polyester Resin for Textiles and Apparel

Loop Industries (Nasdaq: LOOP) has unveiled Twist™, a high-performance circular polyester resin made entirely from textile waste. This innovation marks a significant leap in textile recycling, delivering virgin-quality polyester while drastically reducing environmental impact. Manufactured at Loop’s Terrebonne facility and the upcoming Infinite Loop™ India facility, Twist™ can cut greenhouse gas emissions by up to 81%—equivalent to saving 418,600 tonnes of CO₂ annually.

Twist™ is created using Loop’s patented depolymerization technology, which breaks polyester waste into base monomers (DMT and MEG), purifies them, and repolymerizes them into resin identical to virgin polyester. The process eliminates all dyes, contaminants, and blends, ensuring high performance for textile and apparel use without fiber degradation—a challenge for most existing textile recycling systems, which often depend on PET bottles as feedstock.

A unique feature of Twist™ is its complete traceability system, using embedded chemical tracers to link finished products to their original waste sources. This addresses growing regulatory and brand demands for authenticated recycled content and tackles verification challenges in textile recycling claims.

Franklin Associates, a division of ERG, validated the environmental benefits through a Life Cycle Assessment, confirming the substantial CO₂ savings. Twist™ is fully compatible with current spinning and manufacturing infrastructure, maintaining high purity, color, and dyeing consistency.

“Twist™ represents a major step forward in closing the loop for textiles,” stated Giovanni Catino, Chief Revenue Officer at Loop Industries. “It supports the industry’s transition toward a circular model and meets our customers’ needs as we finalize offtake agreements for our India joint venture.”
