In a targeted relief, Government grants full customs duty exemption on critical petrochemical products in view of ongoing conflict in West Asia

The Government of India has announced a full customs duty exemption on selected petrochemical products until 30th June, 2026. The decision has been taken in response to ongoing conflict in West Asia and resulting disruptions in global supply chains. The measure is intended to ensure availability of critical inputs and manage cost pressures for domestic industries.

In light of the ongoing conflict in West Asia and disruptions in global supply chains, the Government of India has provided full Customs Duty exemption on specified petrochemical products up to 30th June, 2026. The measure is described as temporary and targeted, aimed at maintaining the availability of key petrochemical inputs for domestic industry, reducing cost pressures on downstream sectors, and ensuring supply stability.

The exemption applies to a range of petrochemical feedstock and intermediates used across multiple industries. Sectors expected to be impacted include plastics, packaging, textiles, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, automotive components, and other manufacturing segments. The measure is also expected to provide relief to consumers of final products.

The detailed list of exempted products has been provided in the Annexure of the notification. These include chemicals and intermediates such as Anhydrous ammonia (CTH 2814 10 00), Toluene (2902 30 00), Styrene (2902 50 00), Dichloromethane (2903 12 00), Vinyl chloride monomer (2903 21 00), Methanol (2905 11 00), Isopropyl alcohol (2905 12 20), Monoethylene Glycol (MEG) (2905 31 00), Phenol (2907 11 10), Acetic acid (2915 21 00), Vinyl acetate monomer (2915 32 00), Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) (2917 36 00), Ethylenediamine (2921 21 00), Di Ethanolamine and Mono Ethanolamine (2922 series), and Toluene di-isocyanate (2929 10 20).

Other products covered include Ammonium nitrate (3102 30 00), Linear alkylbenzenes (3817 00 11), and a wide range of polymers such as Polymers of ethylene (3901), Polypropylene (3902 series), Polystyrene (3903 series), Styrene-acrylonitrile (SAN), Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS), Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), Polytetrafluoroethylene, Polyvinyl acetate, Polyvinyl alcohol, Poly (methyl methacrylate), Polyoxymethylene (POM), Polyols, Polyether Ether Ketone (PEEK), Epoxy resins, Polycarbonates, Alkyd resins, Poly ethylene terephthalate (PET) chips, Unsaturated polyester resins, Poly butylene terephthalate, and Polyurethanes.

The list also includes formaldehyde-based resins such as Urea formaldehyde, Melamine formaldehyde, and Phenol formaldehyde, along with Polyphenylene sulphide (PPS) and synthetic rubber products such as Poly butadiene and Styrene butadiene (4002).

The exemption has been notified under Notification No. 12/2026 – Customs.
