TEXPROCIL Celebrates Export Excellence, Launches ACPIT Programme at Annual Awards Function

TEXPROCIL celebrated the achievements of India’s cotton textile exporters during its Annual Awards Function held at Hotel Leela in Mumbai, recognizing outstanding export performance, employment generation, innovation, ESG excellence, and e-commerce leadership across the textile sector.

 

The event was attended by Nirmala Sitharaman as the Chief Guest, along with Vrunda Manohar Desai, industry leaders, exporters, and members of the textile fraternity.Established in 1954, TEXPROCIL is India’s first Export Promotion Council dedicated to promoting cotton textile exports globally. During the event, the Council presented awards across multiple categories, including the prestigious Platinum Trophy recognizing the highest global exports.

In recognition of the labour-intensive nature of the textile sector, TEXPROCIL also honoured companies generating the highest employment. This year, the Council introduced new award categories focused on e-commerce, ESG, and innovation.Addressing the gathering, Vijay Agarwal stated that TEXPROCIL’s 2,000 members account for exports valued at nearly USD 11 billion, while the broader cotton textile ecosystem supports around 35 million jobs directly and indirectly.

Agarwal highlighted TEXPROCIL’s role in promoting the Indian cotton brand “Kasturi Cotton” through branding, certification, and traceability initiatives aimed at strengthening India’s position as a sustainable and reliable sourcing destination.The Chairman appreciated the Government of India and the Ministry of Finance for supporting the textile industry during major global disruptions, including the COVID-19 pandemic, tariff escalations, and geopolitical conflicts.According to Agarwal, initiatives such as the Aatma Nirbhar Bharat package, Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS), MSME support measures, liquidity support, and trade facilitation initiatives helped the industry navigate challenging market conditions.

He also welcomed the Export Promotion Mission announced in the Union Budget 2025–26, along with the Textile Expansion and Employment (TEEM) Scheme and Tex Eco Initiative announced in the Union Budget 2026–27.Agarwal said these initiatives would strengthen competitiveness, modernization, sustainability, and employment generation across the textile value chain.Highlighting India’s export opportunities through newly concluded Free Trade Agreements, he noted that Indian textiles are well-positioned to emerge as a reliable and competitive global sourcing destination.

However, he emphasized the need for continued policy support in areas such as raw material availability at international prices, remission of embedded taxes and levies, affordable export finance, and logistics efficiency to help the sector achieve a USD 350 billion textile market, including USD 100 billion in exports by 2030.Speaking at the event, Textile Commissioner Vrunda Desai thanked the Finance Minister for introducing textile-focused initiatives in the recent Union Budget, including the Textile Expansion and Employment Scheme, National Fibre Scheme, Tex-Eco Initiative, and Samarth 2.0.

Desai also highlighted the Ministry’s District-led Textiles Transformation initiative, which aims to develop high-potential textile districts into globally competitive manufacturing and export hubs by leveraging localized strengths, MSME ecosystems, and traditional skills.She further spoke about PM MITRA Parks, the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, National Technical Textiles Mission, sustainability initiatives, traceability programs, and modernization efforts designed to improve India’s global textile competitiveness.

The Textile Commissioner reaffirmed the Ministry of Textiles’ commitment toward supporting the modernization and long-term growth of the sector.During the event, TEXPROCIL also launched the Advanced Certificate Program in International Trade (ACPIT) in collaboration with EXIM Institute. The programme aims to strengthen India’s export ecosystem through structured industry-oriented trade training aligned with Government initiatives and export promotion strategies.

The event concluded with the presentation of TEXPROCIL Export Awards by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, followed by a vote of thanks delivered by Ravi Sam.
