Balmain Deploys Centric PLM to Streamline Product Lifecycle Management Across Luxury Operations

French luxury house Balmain has successfully implemented Centric Software’s product lifecycle management solution, Centric PLM, as part of a broader digital transformation strategy aimed at modernising operations, improving data reliability and accelerating decision-making across its collections.

The deployment marks a significant step in Balmain’s operational transformation, replacing fragmented legacy tools with a unified platform that now supports the luxury brand’s ready-to-wear product lifecycle from initial design to market launch. The solution was rolled out in just seven months and is expected to be extended to accessories in the next phase.

Balmain, founded in 1945 by Pierre Balmain and globally recognised for its “New French Style,” has been strengthening its digital backbone to support the evolving needs of luxury product development while preserving the Maison’s heritage of craftsmanship, creativity and elegance.

Single source of truth for product lifecycle operations

With the implementation of Centric PLM, Balmain has established a centralised digital platform to manage the lifecycle of its collections more efficiently. The system replaces several limited-capability legacy tools and now acts as a single source of truth across teams involved in design, development, sourcing and commercialization.

The new platform is designed to support Balmain’s operations by streamlining processes, reducing duplicate entries, improving data accuracy and making information easier to access across departments. The move is also expected to improve collaboration and bring more structure to the management of product information and workflows.

As part of the transformation, Balmain worked closely with Centric Software teams to redesign key operational templates, including bill of materials (BOM) structures, helping create more efficient and reliable workflows for product development teams.

Supporting faster decisions and better assortment planning

The implementation is already helping Balmain improve internal coordination and visibility across the collection development process. By consolidating product data into one system, the luxury house aims to accelerate decision-making, strengthen assortment planning and improve agility in responding to market needs.

According to Balmain, the transformation has also created a more structured work environment, with clearer performance indicators and stronger adoption from internal teams.

Timothée de Cenival, Group CIO at Balmain, said the choice of Centric Software played an important role in the project’s success.

“Selecting Centric Software as our PLM partner has played a key role in the project’s success. Thanks to the Centric team’s expertise and efficient management of unexpected challenges, our company now has clear performance indicators and a more structured work environment. This transformation has also strengthened internal team adoption while bringing new momentum to operations,” he said.

Centric strengthens footprint in luxury digital transformation

For Centric Software, the Balmain project further reinforces its presence in the global luxury and fashion technology space, where brands are increasingly investing in digital tools to manage product development, planning, sourcing and commercialization more efficiently.

Centric Software, headquartered in Silicon Valley and a subsidiary of Dassault Systèmes, provides AI-enabled enterprise solutions for fashion, luxury, footwear, cosmetics, home and multi-category retail sectors. Its product suite includes solutions for PLM, planning and pricing, market intelligence, visual assortment building and product experience management.

The company says its Centric PLM platform helps fashion and luxury brands improve product execution from ideation to manufacturing, with measurable gains in productivity and time to market.

Fabrice Canonge, President and CEO of Centric Software, said the company is proud to support Balmain’s operational transformation journey.

“We are proud to partner with the Balmain teams in their pursuit of operational excellence. We look forward to continuing this partnership and contributing to the successful digital transformation of an iconic French haute couture house,” he said.

Balmain’s next phase of digital luxury operations

The rollout of Centric PLM for Balmain’s ready-to-wear business is expected to lay the foundation for broader digital integration across the Maison’s operations, including accessories and other categories in the future.

As luxury brands face increasing pressure to improve speed, transparency and collaboration across global product development networks, Balmain’s PLM implementation highlights how heritage fashion houses are investing in modern digital infrastructure to support growth while maintaining creative excellence and brand identity.
