Discover e-Solutions (DeSL) has launched a Digital Product Passport solution designed to help brands manage and publish product information through their existing PLM environment.
The new functionality allows brands to create and publish Digital Product Passports using product, supplier, quality and certification data already managed within DeSL PLM.
As DPP requirements continue to develop, brands are required to manage information covering products, materials, suppliers, certifications, quality records and supporting documentation across the supply chain. DeSL’s solution uses PLM as the foundation for managing and governing this information throughout the product lifecycle.
DPPs Linked to Current Product Information
Instead of creating a separate static record, DeSL generates each passport from the current approved information maintained within its platform. This keeps information provided to consumers, retail partners and other stakeholders connected to the underlying product and supplier records, including version history and approvals.
The solution combines product specifications, materials, supplier information, declarations, inspections and certifications within the DPP framework.
DeSL’s AI document intelligence can also analyze supporting documents, identify required information and expiration dates, and compare documentation with information maintained within PLM. This gives brands visibility into the source and status of information used in a Digital Product Passport.
“Digital Product Passports are fundamentally a data and governance challenge,” said Colin Marks, CEO of DeSL. “Brands need to understand where information comes from, how it has been maintained and what evidence supports it. By building DPP capabilities into PLM, that information can be managed as part of the product lifecycle and used to create passports when and where they are needed.”
Multiple Channels for Digital Product Passports
Digital Product Passports can be generated at the appropriate product level and made available through QR codes, portals, retail systems and open APIs.
The solution also allows different information to be presented based on the intended audience while maintaining a connection to the same governed product record.
Phased Approach to DPP Implementation
DeSL supports a phased approach to Digital Product Passport implementation. Brands can first establish their product, supplier and compliance data foundation before expanding the information published through their passports.
As DPP requirements evolve, additional data fields, documentation and certification requirements can be incorporated into the existing framework.
