Abrasion-Resistant Recycled Yarn for Tactical and Military Applications

UNIFI, Inc. in the United States has introduced Fortisyn™, a new yarn engineered for exceptional durability in demanding tactical and military environments. The yarn is designed to enhance tear and tensile strength in fabrics, offering a robust solution for uniforms and gear intended for rough handling and exposure to harsh conditions.

Fortisyn is available in two variants: nylon 6,6 and REPREVE® Nylon. The latter is a circular nylon made from post-industrial yarn waste, contributing to a more sustainable production process. The yarn is solution-dyed for improved colorfastness and is manufactured in the United States for Berry Amendment compliance, ensuring it meets strict domestic sourcing requirements for Department of Defense applications.

Fabrics incorporating Fortisyn maintain their form, function, and appearance even after prolonged use in challenging environments. The yarn is fully traceable using FiberPrint® technology and holds certifications from U-TRUST®, Oeko-Tex®, GRS, and SCS, attesting to its recycled content and environmental standards.

UNIFI’s collaboration with mills and partners has resulted in rigorous testing of Fortisyn, validating its performance in high-durability applications. The introduction of this yarn represents an advancement in the use of recycled, circular materials for technical and protective textiles.
