New Delhi, June 9, 2026: Marking World Anti-Counterfeiting Day, the Authentication Solution Providers’ Association (ASPA) has emphasized the critical role of authentication and traceability technologies in safeguarding India’s supply chains and protecting consumers from the growing threat of counterfeit products.
For nearly 28 years, ASPA has been at the forefront of promoting awareness about counterfeiting risks while advocating the adoption of advanced authentication and traceability solutions across industries. The association’s member companies currently protect thousands of brands worldwide through a combination of physical, digital, and phygital technologies that enable product verification and improve supply chain visibility.
The call for stronger anti-counterfeiting measures comes at a time when counterfeit goods continue to impact multiple sectors, including pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), automotive components, consumer durables, and industrial products. Beyond causing significant financial losses to businesses, counterfeit products pose serious threats to consumer safety, public health, and brand reputation.
According to the CRISIL-ASPA State of Counterfeiting in India 2025 Report, the challenge remains widespread. A consumer survey conducted by CRISIL Intelligence involving 1,639 respondents across nine Indian cities found that 89% of consumers had purchased a counterfeit product at least once. Additionally, respondents estimated that nearly 29% of products available in local markets are counterfeit, highlighting the scale of the issue and the need for effective intervention.
Commenting on the findings, Ankit Gupta, President of ASPA, said the survey serves as a strong reminder of the urgent need to strengthen trust and transparency across supply chains.
He noted that the widespread exposure to counterfeit goods demonstrates why authentication and traceability technologies are becoming increasingly important. By enabling product verification and enhancing supply chain visibility, these solutions help protect consumers, reinforce brand integrity, and contribute to a safer marketplace.
Over the years, ASPA has actively supported the anti-counterfeiting ecosystem through research initiatives, awareness campaigns, policy advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge-sharing platforms. The organization continues to collaborate with industry leaders, technology providers, and policymakers to encourage broader adoption of authentication and traceability systems.
As part of its ongoing efforts to advance innovation and dialogue in the sector, ASPA will soon host the next edition of its flagship Traceability & Authentication Forum (TAF). The event will bring together representatives from industry, government, academia, and technology sectors to discuss emerging trends and strategies for building trusted products and transparent supply chains.
Reiterating its commitment on World Anti-Counterfeiting Day, ASPA stated that combating counterfeiting requires collective action from all stakeholders. The association believes that authentication and traceability technologies will play a defining role in creating a secure, transparent, and trustworthy marketplace while strengthening India’s supply chain resilience in the years ahead.
