Australia’s Home Textile Imports Soar, Made-ups Reign Supreme in 2022 and Bedding Dominates in 2023

Australia’s home textile imports have been on a remarkable trajectory, reaching new heights in 2023 with a total value of $630.445 million during the first five months of the year.

Bedding Reigns Supreme in 2023:

Bedding emerged as the undisputed champion among home textile imports, accounting for an impressive 32.02 per cent of the total value of imports. The imports of beds were valued at a staggering $201.899 million, showcasing the importance of comfort and quality sleep in Australian households.

Made-ups Dominated 2022:

Looking back at 2022, the scenario was slightly different as made-ups took center stage. Dominating with a significant inward shipment worth $690.682 million, made-ups contributed 29 per cent to the total imports of home textiles, which were valued at $2,381.396 million. This demonstrates the ever-changing preferences of Australian consumers and their willingness to embrace new trends in home décor.

Floor, Bathroom & Kitchen, and Camping Follow Suit:

Apart from bedding and made-ups, floor, bathroom & kitchen, and camping emerged as the next top contributors to Australia’s home textile imports. Floor products garnered $88.301 million (14.01%), showcasing the importance of enhancing interior spaces. Meanwhile, bathroom & kitchen products saw an inbound shipment worth $48.414 million (7.68%), emphasizing the significance of quality textiles in these functional areas. Camping products made a substantial contribution of $44.057 million (6.99%), reflecting Australians’ love for outdoor adventures and recreational activities.

Window and Sacks & Bags:

In addition to the primary contributors, the report highlighted the importance of window products with imports valued at $42.751 million (6.78%). Sacks and bags followed closely, accounting for $37.753 million (5.99%) of the total home textile imports, indicating the significance of these items for storage and organization.

Other Home Textile Products:

While the primary contributors stole the limelight, other products such as furnishing articles, tables, used/new rags, worn clothing, and sets also found their way into the market. Although these products contributed very little in terms of volume and value, they play a crucial role in catering to niche preferences and unique tastes of consumers.
