PM Modi at Bharat Tex 2025: Boosting India’s Textile Industry

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed Bharat Tex 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, highlighting textiles’ role in India’s growth and global prominence. He described Bharat Tex as a key global event showcasing India’s cultural heritage and economic potential. With over 120 countries participating, the event displayed the entire textile value chain, fostering global business opportunities
Shri Modi noted a 7% rise in textile exports, making India the sixth-largest global exporter, with a target of ₹9 lakh crore by 2030. He emphasized MSMEs’ contribution (80% of the sector) and the growing role of startups in sustainability. Foreign investments in textiles have doubled over the past decade, supporting employment and innovation.
Bharat Tex featured 5,000 exhibitors, 12,000 products, 6,000 international buyers, and 70+ knowledge sessions across 220,000+ square meters, reinforcing India’s leadership in the global textile industry.

ITTA PLAYED A SIGNIFICANT ROLE IN KNOWLEDGE SESSIONS
“An Outlook on Technical Textiles”- at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi
The conference “An Outlook on Technical Textiles” at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, on 14th February 2025, brought together key industry leaders and government officials to discuss the sector’s growth, potential, and international collaboration. There were two very important panel discussions held in the conference, which are narrated below.
Vision for Indian Technical Textiles:
Key members of the Indian Technical Textile Association (ITTA) were invited to participate in the first panel discussion, chaired by Smt. Neelam Shami Rao, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. The session was expertly moderated by Mr. Arindam Saha, Director at PwC India. The esteemed panel included prominent ITTA Directors & distinguished ITTA members, the industry leaders discussing key aspects of India’s technical textiles sector. Shri Sundararaman K.S. (Shiva Texyarn) emphasized its transformative potential and the need for policy support and innovations done by Shiva Texyarn on import substitute products for defence, while Shri Ankur Kothari (Kusumgar) highlighted high-performance coated textiles for global competitiveness. Shri Narendra Dalmia (Strata) discussed geotextiles in infrastructure, and Shri Anjani Prasad (Archroma) focused on sustainable textile solutions. Shri Manmohan Singh (Grasim) spoke on advanced technologies, Shri Updeep Singh (Welspun) addressed scaling for global markets on home textiles, and Shri Pramod Khosla (Khosla Profil) highlighted industrial applications.
Unlocking Global Potential: Capitalizing on Emerging Opportunities:
The second panel discussion was on global technical moderated by Mr. Hendrik van Delden, Partner at Gherzi Textile Organization, Germany. It featured key international experts discussing technological innovation, trade, sustainability, and market trends.
Distinguished panellists included Mr. Dmitry Vladimirovich Guzov (ISRPC RLI, Russia), Mr. Evgeny Grivia (Russian Embassy in India), Mr. Steve Schiffman (Advanced Textile Association, USA), Mr. Baushuan Ger (Taipei Economic and Cultural Center, India), Shri Ajay Kumar Sirohi (Toray Industries, India), and Mr. Simon Lee (Hyosung, Korea).
The discussion provided valuable insights into emerging opportunities in the evolving global technical textile industry, and India can grow by tapping these opportunities.
Dr. Anup Rakshit, Executive Director of ITTA, concluded both the sessions by acknowledging the insightful discussions and shared visions by the esteemed panellists that have further enriched the growth opportunities, global market and export potentials of the technical textiles sector. Dr. Rakshit emphasized the importance of continued collaboration and innovation, highlighting that the collective efforts of industry leaders, policymakers, and experts are key to driving the growth and global recognition of Indian technical textiles.
Dr Rakshit expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all the esteemed speakers, panellists, and attendees for their valuable contributions to both the sessions. He also thanked the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, for their unwavering support in promoting the sector and fostering a conducive environment for its advancement.

EXHIBITION
An exhibition spread across nearly 2 lakh sq. meters. of area and encompassing the entire textile value chain, including manufacturers, exporters and importers showcasing their capabilities, innovation, latest collections and generating momentum throughout the entire Indian Textiles ecosystem i.e., Fibres & Yarns, Fabrics, Apparel & Fashion, Home Textiles, Handlooms, Technical Textiles, Intelligent Manufacturing and Handicrafts & Carpets.
The Technical Textile industry was in the Hall no-12 & 11. A number of Technical Textile companies participated in the Bharat Tex expo and displayed their innovative and regular products. Some of the products, like lightweight bulletproof jackets, filters, composites, etc are worth mentioning.
There was a unique example of encouraging participation of a few smaller companies from Amritsar who have recently entered into technical textiles through a cluster development program on technical textiles initiated by SIDBI. Eight companies, namely, Apollo Processors, Arora Knit Fab, Cedaar Textile Limited, Parag International- Export Division, R J Woollens, Aratex LLP, Tex & Twist, and Shree Ganesh Knitters, participated in the exhibition to display their products and look for marketing partners. They said that Bharat Tex is a good platform to achieve their objectives. They invited Dr Anup Rakshit, ED, ITTA, to demonstrate their products and look for support from ITTA in terms of Training and connecting with the technical textile industry in India. Dr Rakshit assured them that ITTA will extend all possible support to them.
