Nirmala Sitharaman launched the Advanced Certificate Programme in International Trade (ACPIT), a new industry-led initiative developed by TEXPROCIL in collaboration with EXIM Institute, during the TEXPROCIL Export Awards Function held at Hotel Leela, Mumbai.
The initiative aims to strengthen India’s export ecosystem by building a professionally trained and globally competitive exporter community capable of supporting the country’s long-term trade growth ambitions. The launch event was attended by senior government officials, industry leaders, exporters, and stakeholders from the textile and international trade sectors, including Ms. Vrunda M. Desai, Textile Commissioner, Shri Vijay Agarwal, Chairman of TEXPROCIL, and Shri Ravi Sam, Vice Chairman of TEXPROCIL.
ACPIT has been designed as a structured, industry-oriented certification programme focused on practical international trade knowledge, export compliance, logistics, trade finance, and market access strategies. The programme seeks to bridge the gap between policy frameworks and operational execution by equipping exporters with real-world trade expertise. The initiative aligns with several national development priorities, including the Government’s Export Promotion Mission 2025, the Foreign Trade Policy, the Skill India Mission, and broader trade facilitation and ease-of-doing-business initiatives.
According to TEXPROCIL, the programme has been created to support exporters, importers, MSMEs, trade professionals, and aspiring entrepreneurs by providing practical, industry-focused training in critical areas of international business operations. The ACPIT curriculum will feature eight specialized modules covering key aspects of global trade, including international trade documentation, export-import compliance, logistics and supply chain management, trade finance, government export incentives, regulatory frameworks, market access strategies, and risk management.
Unlike conventional academic programmes, ACPIT will emphasize case studies, interactive learning, expert-led sessions, and practical trade applications designed to improve operational efficiency and export readiness. The programme is expected to play a significant role in enhancing MSME participation in international markets by addressing common operational and compliance-related challenges faced by smaller exporters.Industry leaders highlighted that capacity building is becoming increasingly important as India seeks to improve its global trade competitiveness and achieve higher export growth targets.
Speaking at the launch, Shri Vijay Agarwal, Chairman of TEXPROCIL, stated that India’s export ambitions require not only policy support but also a highly skilled exporter community capable of navigating the rapidly evolving global trade environment.Shri Ravi Sam, Vice Chairman of TEXPROCIL, emphasized that practical trade expertise and operational knowledge are critical to strengthening export competitiveness, particularly for MSMEs and emerging businesses. The programme will be implemented entirely as an industry initiative by TEXPROCIL and EXIM Institute without any direct financial implication for the Government. Participation will be offered on a nominal fee basis to ensure broader accessibility across the export community.
Industry observers view the initiative as an important example of industry-government collaboration aimed at strengthening India’s export readiness, improving compliance standards, and developing future-ready trade professionals. As India continues to pursue higher export targets and deeper integration with global markets, programmes such as ACPIT are expected to contribute significantly toward building a stronger and more competitive export ecosystem.
