Global Cashmere Leader Brian Yu Appointed to AbTF Board

The Aid by Trade Foundation (AbTF) has announced the appointment of Brian Yu, Chief Executive Officer of the Artwell Group, to its Board of Trustees, strengthening the foundation’s commitment to sustainability, transparency, and responsible sourcing within the global textile industry.

Brian Yu is widely recognized as a leading advocate for sustainable textile production and ethical supply chains. Under his leadership, Artwell Group has grown into the world’s largest supplier of responsibly produced cashmere knitwear, serving international brands while promoting environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing practices.

A strong supporter of animal welfare and supply chain transparency, Yu has played a significant role in developing industry standards for responsible cashmere production. He co-authored the Farm Animal Welfare Requirements Cashmere Goat Standard of the International Cooperation Committee of Animal Welfare (ICCAW) in China, helping establish best practices for cashmere goat welfare. He has also supported the implementation and testing of advanced traceability solutions across the cashmere value chain.

His appointment further strengthens AbTF’s efforts to promote sustainable natural fibers through initiatives such as The Good Cashmere Standard® (GCS), which places a strong emphasis on animal welfare, environmental stewardship, and transparent supply chains. The complete traceability of GCS-certified cashmere fibers is enabled through TextileGenesis’s advanced digital traceability platform, ensuring accountability from farm to finished product.

Welcoming the appointment, Tina Stridde, Managing Director of the Aid by Trade Foundation, said that Brian Yu’s extensive experience and commitment to sustainability would bring valuable expertise to the organization.

“In Brian Yu, we welcome a distinguished advocate of sustainability and innovation in the textile industry to the ranks of the AbTF Board of Trustees. We look forward to working together to further expand the role of AbTF and its standards in sustainable cotton and cashmere production,” Stridde said.

Commenting on his appointment, Brian Yu emphasized the importance of collaborative action in advancing responsible textile production worldwide.

“My motivation in joining the Board of Trustees is rooted in a strong commitment to advancing sustainability and responsibility within the textile industry. Through collective efforts, we can enhance transparency, empower communities, and promote ethically produced textiles worldwide,” he stated.

With more than two decades of leadership experience in the textile sector, Yu currently leads a global workforce of over 2,500 employees across Inner Mongolia, Eastern China, Hong Kong, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Prior to joining the Board of Trustees, he served as a member of the advisory board for The Good Cashmere Standard, contributing valuable insights into sustainable cashmere production and industry best practices.

Industry observers view Yu’s appointment as a significant step in strengthening collaboration between leading textile manufacturers and sustainability organizations, helping accelerate the transition toward more transparent, ethical, and environmentally responsible textile supply chains worldwide.
