The Indian textile ministry recently announced an extension of the Geo Textiles (Quality Control) Order, 2022’s implementation date. The directive, which was supposed to go into effect on October 7 this year, will now be enforced beginning January 1 of next year.

The decision to extend the implementation date was decided in response to requests from enterprises for additional time to comply with Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) criteria, according to an official announcement.

Compliance includes ongoing certification processes at the BIS for the 19 goods listed in statutory order 1706 (E) of April 10, 2023, and the following Geo Textiles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2022, dated May 24, 2023.

The ibid QCO specifies laminated high density polyethylene (HDPE) woven geomembranes for water proof lining, poly-vinyl chloride (PVC) geomembranes for lining, needle-punched non-woven geobags for coastal and waterway protection, and geotextiles for permanent erosion control in hard armour systems.
